Philip Hayden Summer Update

While many things are still being prayerfully determined, Grace Campus continues its ongoing commitment to sponsoring children in both Uganda and China. For those of you who partner with us via Give Grace, thanks for joining us in helping care for these children.  Below you’ll find the latest on our children at Philip Hayden.

May2010

This is a pretty common sight around the city.  These drivers service most all of Hong Kong for a starting fare of 18.00 HKD (a little over $2 USD).  It’s always an adventure jumping in a cab because more times than not, the drivers only speak Cantonese. If you don’t know how to  CLEARLY and CORRECTLY say where you are heading, you humbly pull up Google maps and start pointing.  It’s quite humorous and we usually get a chuckle out of the driver at the end of the process.  You might find yourself being told to buckle up before pulling away from the curb because if pulled over and passengers aren’t strapped in, the driver is slapped with a hefty fine.  Whether we are reminded our not, we buckle up because the majority of the cabbies seem to drive as if training for the Indy 500.

Safety first… thanks Hong Kong.

February desktop calendars

Below you’ll find a shot of Hong Kong’s well-known Victoria harbor and it’s surrounding buildings lighting the busy waters.  We hope to offer a new shot/calendar from around Hong Kong every month, so feel free to use it as your computer’s wallpaper. Each time you log onto your favorite social networking site or open up your e-mail, may you be reminded to pray for us! We want every picture to show you a different side of Hong Kong and offer a glimpse into what we see on a regular basis.  Maybe it will be  a conversation starter for friends and family who may not know what Grace Campus is all about… better yet, maybe it will be a conversation starter with a complete stranger at a coffee shop.

Tell people about it. Share it. Twitter it.  Do whatever you want with it. Tell people about Jesus with it somehow.  Thanks be to God that His presence and rescue is not confined to a specific continent, tongue, or organization.  He is FOR us, not against us.  We serve a big God who is jealous for His people to know His love for them.

Continue to pray for us as we seek the Father’s heart for this city. There are BIG things in store for the semester…we are confident in this!

Spoons & fellowship

imgp1013imgp1030
Every Thursday night, we come together at Matt and April’s to share a meal and…life. No agendas, no schedules or tasks; just fellowship and food.

You guessed it, potato soup was on the menu this week with pumpkin cobbler and ice cream to finish it off. Rest assured moms and dads, we are getting the recommended amount of homemade meat and veggies at least once a week! Thursday nights are seen as intentional recharging/resting time for each of us as well as an environment to cultivate those newer friendships among us. It is evident that unity is growing and it’s only making us sharper as individuals. Edifying Christ’s unique craftsmanship in each of us, silences the enemy, brings light to the darkness and spurs us on to humbly carry His love well.

What’s beautiful about all this? I can honestly say that if one of us were not serving in the capacity that we are currently, a void would be extremely obvious. The Lord knew our needs as a team in order to best serve those around us. He knew it all before Asia was even on anyone’s radar. It is proof of His faithfulness to us.

On a lighter note, after everyone is stuffed and the games have been played and put away, something very spiritual happens…we watch The Office. Jason usually ends up rolling around on the floor due to laughing too hard. Mary falls asleep and Micah ends up quoting the entire episode because he’s already watched it, thus making Scott mad. Good times had by all.

Close(r) to our hearts, a Phillip Hayden update

yellowhands

James 1:27 commands something so simple–bring hope to the hopeless; love to the unloved– [v27] “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world” [NIV]. Whether that’s the five orphans GCM sponsors, or university students throughout Asia, we’re committed to sharing the life-changing love of Christ.

There truly is a special place in our hearts for the precious children we sponsor through the Phillip Hayden Foundation and it’s nice to finally be on the same side of the world as they are! Over the next few weeks, we will be posting bits and pieces from their most recent updates that we’ve received. You can be expecting anything from their artwork masterpieces to photos capturing their everyday life.

For those readers that are new to our blog  and our partnership with PHF, visit their Web site (linked on above hands picture) or visit their YouTube site and watch a highlight video.

more to come,

zb.
